House numbers

Lit address numbers help guests, delivery drivers and emergency crews find your home after dark. Halo-lit house numbers are the most chosen: solid stainless digits that read by day and glow onto the wall at night. A photocell turns them on at dusk, so nobody has to remember a switch.

From idea to switch-on

  1. Check your city or fire department rule for address number height and contrast.
  2. Pick a wall that faces the street, near the door or garage, where plants and lights do not hide the numbers.
  3. Find the power: an outdoor junction box nearby, or a dry spot inside for the power supply.
  4. Send the numbers, the wall size and a photo for a free drawing and exact price.
  5. Mount the digits flush with the full-size template; an electrician wires the power supply and photocell.

Tip: Choose a finish that contrasts with the wall: black digits on light stucco or brick, brushed or gold on a dark wall. The halo helps at night, but in daylight the numbers are read by contrast alone.

Questions

How big should house numbers be?

Many cities and fire departments set a minimum height and ask for numbers that contrast with the wall and can be read from the street, so check your local rule first. Then size them for the distance from the street; the drawing shows them to scale on your wall.

Do lit house numbers need an electrician?

For the line-voltage side, yes. The numbers run on 12 V from an outdoor power supply, and connecting the supply and the photocell to the house power is a job for a licensed electrician.

Will the numbers stay on all night?

With a dusk-to-dawn photocell they turn on when it gets dark and off at dawn. If you would rather switch them off at a set time, add a timer.

Do the numbers sit off the wall?

No. They mount flush with threaded studs and a full-size paper template, and the halo spreads out around the back edge of each digit.
