Channel Letter Mounting Hardware Kit, Studs and Anchors
Spare hardware for flush-mounting channel letters: stainless threaded studs, anchors for masonry and drywall, washers, nuts and exterior silicone.
Channel letters mount flush to the wall on threaded studs. The studs go into holes drilled in the wall, held by anchors and sealed with silicone, and the letter sits tight against the wall. Every new sign we make already comes with its mounting hardware and a full-size paper template. This kit is for later: re-hanging letters after a repaint, moving a sign to a new location, or replacing hardware that was lost or damaged.
The kit contains:
- Stainless steel threaded studs.
- Wall anchors for masonry (brick, block, concrete, stucco over masonry) and for drywall.
- Washers and nuts.
- Exterior silicone to seal the holes against water.
It comes in two sizes, by the number of letters: up to 6 letters or up to 12 letters, based on about 3 studs per letter.
If you no longer have the paper template, make a new one. Lay each letter face down on a large sheet of paper, trace the outline, and mark the center of every stud. Tape the sheets to the wall in the right order and spacing, check them with a level, and drill through the marks. Push wire holes through the template too if the letters are lit.
A few practical points:
- Drill the hole size the anchor asks for, blow out the dust, and fill the hole with silicone before the stud goes in.
- On drywall, heavier letters should reach the framing behind the board, not hang on the drywall alone.
- Do not over-tighten: the letter should sit flat, not bend.
If your letters came from another sign maker, compare the old studs with ours before you order: diameter, thread and length. Send us a photo of an old stud next to a ruler if you are not sure.
Lit letters also need their power connected; the 120 V side of an outdoor sign is a job for a licensed electrician.
How to choose
Count the letters you are hanging, including logo shapes and punctuation that mount separately. Up to 6 pieces, choose the 6-letter kit; up to 12, the 12-letter kit; for more, combine kits. Very large letters may use more than 3 studs each, so count the stud holes on the back of your letters if you can.
Check the wall. Brick, block, concrete and stucco over masonry use the masonry anchors. Drywall uses the drywall anchors, but for heavy letters plan to reach the framing behind the board.
If the letters came from another maker, measure an old stud first so you know ours will thread in.
Questions
Do I need this kit with a new sign?
No. Every new sign we make ships with its mounting hardware and a full-size paper template. This kit is for re-hanging, moving or replacing hardware later.
Which size kit should I order?
Count the pieces you are hanging. The kits are sized at about 3 studs per letter: one for up to 6 letters and one for up to 12.
Will the studs fit letters from another sign maker?
Compare the diameter, thread and length of your old studs before you order. If you are not sure, send us a photo of one next to a ruler.
I lost the paper template. What do I do?
Lay each letter face down on paper, trace it and mark each stud. Tape the tracings to the wall in order, level them and drill through the marks.
Why is there silicone in the kit?
It seals each hole around the stud so rain cannot run into the wall. Fill the hole before the stud goes in.
