Stainless steel dimensional letters, non-lit
Non-lit metal letters, also called dimensional or non-illuminated letters, are solid 3D letters with a 304 stainless steel face and returns and no lighting inside. They need no power and no electrician, and they read well in daylight and under the lights already on your building. You will also see them called building letters, metal sign letters or fabricated letters.
Choose the finish:
- Brushed stainless, a satin grain that hides fingerprints and suits stone, concrete and modern lobbies.
- Mirror gold, titanium-coated stainless that reflects the room, popular in salons, boutiques, hotels and on event backdrops.
- Painted to your color, matte, satin or gloss, from a Pantone, RAL or paint brand code.
The 304 stainless steel underneath does not rust through, so the same letters work on building facades, monuments, lobbies and reception walls, indoors or out. The letters mount flush with threaded studs and a full-size paper template. Decide about lighting before you order: a non-lit letter can only become halo-lit by rebuilding it. Non-lit letters usually cost less than the same letters lit, and the price estimator shows the difference. See them at scale on building letters projects.
- Brushed finishes hide fingerprints; mirror finishes show them, so place mirror letters out of reach.
- Clean mirror gold with a soft microfiber cloth, never an abrasive pad.
- For painted letters, send a Pantone, RAL or paint brand code; the color is shown on your drawing.
- Plan the size with the letter height calculator before you ask for a drawing.
- If your plans name a finish such as No. 4 (brushed) or No. 8 (mirror), send that page with your request.

Questions
Will stainless steel letters rust outdoors?
The 304 stainless steel we use does not rust through, which is why the same letters suit building facades and monuments as well as lobbies.
Brushed Stainless Steel LettersCan I add lighting to non-lit letters later?
Only by rebuilding them. If you might want a halo later, choose halo-lit letters now; they look like metal letters by day.

Flush to the wall on threaded studs, using the full-size paper template that comes with the letters. Standoffs only if you ask for them.

Brushed has a soft satin grain that hides fingerprints. Mirror reflects the room and looks more striking, but shows fingerprints and needs more cleaning.

Painted Metal Letters in Any ColorAre these flat-cut or fabricated letters?
Fabricated: a stainless steel face joined to returns, so each letter has real depth, unlike a flat letter cut from one plate. The depth is set on your drawing.
How do I keep stainless letters clean near the ocean or a pool?
Wash them now and then with mild soap and fresh water, rinse and dry. Salt and pool chemicals left on the surface can cause light brown surface stains that wash off; avoid steel wool and bleach-based cleaners.
