Most halo-lit (back-lit or reverse channel) letters have one finish, such as brushed steel, black or gold. These carry your artwork instead. The 304 stainless steel face of each letter is printed, or painted, with your logo colors, so a multicolor mark, a gradient or a pattern stays on the letter while the light stays a clean halo on the wall around it.

They suit brands whose logo does not work in a single color: clinics and dental offices with two-tone marks, children's businesses, studios, cafes and tech companies with gradient logos, and anyone who wants the sign to match their printed materials.

How they are built:

  • 304 stainless steel faces and returns. Solid colors can be painted; gradients and multicolor artwork are printed.
  • Returns brushed or painted, shown on your drawing.
  • Translucent acrylic back. LEDs inside light it and the glow spreads on the wall.
  • 12 V LED modules in white 6500 K, neutral 4000 K or warm white 3000 K.
  • Depth typically 2 to 3 in; letters 4 in to 60 in tall in the price estimator.
  • Flush mounting with a full-size paper template and the mounting hardware; standoffs only if you ask.

Know how they look at night before you choose. The face is metal, so the printed colors are not lit from inside. After dark you see them by the light around the sign, framed by the bright halo on the wall. In a lit lobby or under storefront lights the colors stay visible; on a dark street the letters read mostly as shapes outlined by light. If your colors themselves must glow at night, front-lit letters with colored faces are the better choice.

The halo also needs the right wall. A smooth, light, matte surface shows it best; dark walls absorb the glow, and glossy tile mirrors the LEDs as bright spots.

Color matching happens on the drawing. Send vector artwork with your color codes; we match the face colors to your artwork and show them for approval before anything is built.

Indoor letters plug in through a 100-240 V adapter. Outdoor letters use IP65 LED modules and a hard-wired outdoor power supply that a licensed electrician connects. The power supply and LED modules are UL / cUL listed components. A dimmer with remote is available. Installation and permits are not included.

Printed faces cost slightly more than a single-finish halo letter; the price estimator on this page shows the range, and the drawing gives the exact price.

How to choose

Decide when the sign matters most. If it hangs in a lobby, a waiting room or under a lit canopy, printed faces keep your full colors in view all day and the halo adds a finish at night. If it must sell your brand colors to a dark street, choose front-lit letters with colored faces instead.

Check the artwork. Very fine lines and small text inside a letter may be too small to read at sign size; the drawing shows the print at real scale so you can judge. Pick a light color that flatters your palette: warm white with warm colors, white or neutral with blues and greens. Check the wall too: smooth, light and matte shows the halo best.

Send vector artwork (AI, EPS, SVG or PDF) with your color codes, the wall size and a photo of the wall.

Questions

Do the printed colors glow at night?

No. The face is metal, so the colors are seen by the light around the sign while the LEDs light the wall behind. If the colors themselves must glow, choose front-lit letters with colored faces.

What file should I send?

Vector artwork such as AI, EPS, SVG or PDF, with your color codes, for example Pantone or CMYK values. The drawing shows the face colors matched to your artwork for your approval.

Can a gradient be printed on the letters?

Yes. Gradients, multicolor logos and patterns are printed on the metal face; solid single colors can also be painted.

What color is the halo?

White 6500 K, neutral white 4000 K or warm white 3000 K, chosen on the drawing. The halo stays white so it does not compete with the colors on the face.

Can they go outdoors?

Yes. Outdoor builds use IP65 LED modules and a hard-wired outdoor power supply that a licensed electrician connects. Installation and permits are not included.

Will the face colors match my brand?

We match the face colors to your artwork and color codes and show them on the drawing for your approval before anything is built. Send a vector file with Pantone, CMYK or paint codes for the closest match.

What wall works best?

A smooth, light, matte wall. The halo picks up the wall color; dark walls absorb it, and glossy tile or glass mirrors the LEDs as bright spots.

How are the letters mounted?

Flush to the wall, using the full-size paper template and the mounting hardware that come with the sign. The halo spreads from the back edge of each letter; standoffs only if you ask for them.
