This is a complete storefront sign: raceway-mounted channel letters, front-lit and already wired on their raceway. The raceway is a slim metal box that runs behind the letters, painted to match your fascia. It holds the power supply and all the wiring, so the sign goes up as one assembly and the electrician connects a single power feed.
The main reason to choose it is the building. With flush-mounted letters, every letter needs its own fasteners and a wire path through the wall. On a raceway, only the raceway mounting points and one power feed go into the fascia. Landlords and shopping centers often require this for leased storefronts, and it leaves fewer holes to patch when a tenant moves out.
Check your sign criteria before you order. Some shopping centers require a raceway, while others ban exposed raceways and want letters mounted directly. A raceway also adds depth behind the letters, which matters where a city limits how far a sign projects from the wall.
The letters are our standard front-lit build:
- 304 stainless steel returns, painted black, white or your color, or left brushed.
- Translucent acrylic faces with a trim cap, in white or your brand color.
- 12 V LED modules in white 6500 K, neutral 4000 K or warm white 3000 K.
- IP65 LED modules and an outdoor power supply for outdoor signs; a plug-in adapter for indoor ones.
- Optional dusk-to-dawn photocell or timer, wired in.
- Letters 4 in to 60 in tall in the price estimator.
By day the raceway shows as a narrow band behind the letters. Painted to the fascia color, it reads as part of the wall. At night the faces glow and the raceway falls into the dark, so the letters are what people see.
The raceway is a little longer than the row of letters. The price estimator on this page prices it by the foot on top of the letters, and the drawing shows its exact length and position on your wall. A full-size paper template marks the mounting points, and the mounting hardware comes with the sign.
The power supply and LED modules are UL / cUL listed components. Installation, sign permits and the electrician's connection are not included. Send your logo, a photo of the fascia and its size; we email a free drawing with a lit preview and the exact price, and nothing is built until you approve it.
How to choose
Read your lease or ask your landlord first. If the shopping center calls for a raceway, this is the sign to order; if not, compare it with flush-mounted front-lit letters, which leave nothing behind the letters by day. Some centers do the opposite and ban exposed raceways, and some cities limit how far a sign may project, so check both.
The raceway works best when it matches the fascia exactly, so send a close photo of the wall and, if you have it, the paint brand and color code. Measure the full width and height of the sign band. Note where the power will come through the wall, because the electrician connects the feed to the raceway at that point.
Then choose letter colors and light color as for any front-lit sign, and add a photocell or timer if the sign should switch itself on at dusk.
Questions
Why do landlords ask for a raceway?
Only the raceway mounting points and one power feed go into the building, instead of fasteners and a wire path for every letter. That means less work on the fascia and fewer holes to patch when a tenant leaves.
What color is the raceway?
It is painted to match your fascia so it reads as part of the wall by day. Send a photo and, if you have one, a paint color code with your quote request.
How long is the raceway?
A little longer than the row of letters. The estimator prices it by the foot, and your drawing shows its exact length and position.
What does the electrician have to do?
Connect one power feed to the raceway. The letters, wiring and power supply are already in place. Installation, permits and the electrician are not included.
Are the electrical parts listed?
The power supply and the LED modules are UL / cUL listed components.
Does every shopping center allow raceways?
No. Some sign programs require a raceway, while others ban exposed raceways and ask for letters mounted directly to the wall. Read your lease and sign criteria, or ask the landlord, before you order.
Can halo-lit letters go on a raceway?
This set is front-lit. Halo letters need a wall or panel behind them for the glow to land on, so if you want halo letters with few holes in the building, ask about letters on a backer panel.
Does the raceway count toward my sign area?
It depends on your city. Many codes measure a box around the letters, and few say how they treat a raceway, so ask your city's planning office if you are close to the limit.
