RGB channel letters, also called color-changing or multicolor LED letters, are front-lit channel letters with RGB LED modules inside instead of single-color white ones. From the remote you can set the faces to any color, fade slowly between colors or change them, and switch back to a steady color whenever you like.

The faces are white translucent acrylic. All the color comes from the LEDs, so the faces look white by day and when the sign is off, and take on whatever color you set at night. The returns are 304 stainless steel, painted black, white or your color, or left brushed, and they frame the colored faces the same way in every color.

Where RGB earns its place:

  • Bars, lounges and game rooms that change the mood through the night.
  • Entertainment venues, arcades and event spaces.
  • Businesses that want seasonal or holiday colors, or team colors on game day.
  • Interiors where the sign should match changing stage or room lighting.

If your brand needs one exact color every night, standard front-lit letters with colored acrylic faces are the simpler choice. RGB is for when changing the color is the point. RGB modules also make white by mixing red, green and blue, so their white has a slight tint next to a true white LED.

An RGB controller and remote come with the sign, and the remote sets brightness too; the single-color dimmer is not made for RGB signs. If you want to control it from a phone app, add a Wi-Fi controller to the order. Before you order, check your city's sign code and your lease: many cities limit flashing or changing signs, especially where drivers can see them. You can always run the sign in one steady color.

Indoor letters plug in through a 100-240 V adapter. Outdoor letters use IP65 LED modules and a hard-wired outdoor power supply that a licensed electrician connects. The power supply and LED modules are UL / cUL listed components. The letters mount flush to the wall with the full-size paper template and hardware included, or on a raceway painted to match. Installation, permits and the electrician are not included.

How to choose

First ask how often the color will really change. If the answer is rarely, white or colored front-lit letters cost less in the estimator and keep one look every night. If you want the sign to follow the mood of the room, the season or an event, RGB is the right build. If white will be your main color, choose white LEDs: RGB white is slightly tinted.

Then pick the return finish. White or brushed returns stay neutral whatever color the faces show; black returns give every color a crisp dark frame. Decide whether a remote is enough or whether staff should control it from a phone, and add the Wi-Fi controller if so.

For outdoor signs, read your city's rules on changing and flashing signs first. Send your text or logo and wall size, and the drawing shows the letters lit.

Questions

What colors can the letters show?

Any color the RGB LEDs can mix, set from the remote, plus fades and color changes. The faces are white acrylic, so they look white by day and when the sign is off.

Can I control the sign from my phone?

Yes, with a Wi-Fi controller added to your order. The standard RGB controller works with the remote that comes with the sign.

Is a color-changing sign allowed on my street?

Many cities limit flashing, animated or changing signs, especially where drivers can see them. Check your city's sign code and your lease before you order; you can always set the sign to one steady color.

Can RGB letters go outdoors?

Yes. Outdoor builds use IP65 LED modules and a hard-wired outdoor power supply that a licensed electrician connects.

Can they go on a raceway?

Yes. Choose flush mounting with the paper template and hardware, or a raceway painted to match your wall.

Can RGB letters show plain white?

Yes, by mixing red, green and blue, but that white has a slight tint compared with a white-only LED. If the sign will be white most of the time, standard front-lit letters give a cleaner white.

Can I dim RGB letters?

Yes. The RGB controller sets brightness as well as color, fades and color changes, all from its remote. The single-color LED sign dimmer is not made for RGB signs.

Why are the faces white and not colored?

A colored face filters the light behind it; a red face, for example, blocks most blue light. White acrylic lets every color through, which is also why the letters look white by day.
